Improved Governance: Oyibode Wins Commendation for Transforming Udu Council
On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the Honorable Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. (Prince) Kalanama Penawou, alongside his team, paid a working visit to the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP FCIA, at his office in Otor-Udu.
During the visit, Olorogun Oyibode presented his scorecard to the Commissioner, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to transparency and judicious use of the council’s resources. The Chairman enumerated ongoing projects, which include the construction of an ultra-modern chapel now at roofing level, the Executive Chairman’s office with an Exco chamber at an advanced stage, and the Chairman’s residential quarters currently under construction.
Olorogun Oyibode explained that these projects were imperative as he met an outdated and unfitting office environment upon assuming office. He further noted that introducing the chapel has significantly improved staff attendance and dedication. He stated that the Executive Chairman’s residential quarters would enhance his accessibility to the people of Udu.
Highlighting other achievements, the Chairman revealed that upon his resumption, council documents were being processed at public business centers, which prompted him to provide computers and printers to various departments. Additionally, he settled multiple communal disputes inherited from previous administrations, particularly in communities such as Opete, Okpaka, and Ogbe-Udu.
Olorogun Oyibode also disclosed that his administration purchased four official vehicles for key council officials, including the Secretary, Leader of the Legislative Arm, TLG, and HPM. He remarked that the challenges of traffic gridlock at locations such as Ubogo Market and Jigbale have been resolved through the establishment of a task force, leading to improved ease of movement within the council area.
He also revealed that he carried out many remedial works on several roads in Udu Local Government Areas which includes the Daddy Bakery Road, Ubogo Market, John Jeff, Cross and Stop, among others.
The Commissioner, Hon. (Prince) Kalanama Penawou, after inspecting the ongoing projects, expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the Udu Council Chairman. He applauded Olorogun Oyibode for his visionary leadership, commending him for utilizing the council’s funds judiciously with tangible results.
“I am pleased to see the visible progress and the numerous projects initiated by Chairman Oyibode. It is evident that Udu Local Government is in capable hands. The construction of the Chairman’s residential quarters aligns with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s directive for council chairmen to reside within their respective local government areas to enhance governance and accessibility,” the Commissioner remarked.
Hon. Kalanama further praised the Chairman’s efforts in fostering peace across Udu, promising to encourage investors to the area, given the improved security and tranquility.
The visit concluded with assurances of continuous monitoring and collaboration to ensure sustainable development across Udu Local Government.
